How to Shape Your Eyebrows Perfectly

How many of us have gone through Pinterest and not felt a pang of jealousy upon seeing pins of perfect eyebrows? With the increasing trend of well-groomed eyebrows, it seems essential to know how to shape your eyebrows. For your future reference, we have come up with easy steps for you to follow and learn how to shape your eyebrows perfectly.

Steps to Shape Your Eyebrows Perfectly

  1. Get a perspective. Take a look at your entire face in the mirror and visualize what shape your eyebrows will be taking.
  2. Fill in your eyebrows as a guideline. Before proceeding to tweeze away, fill in the gaps of your eyebrows using a brow pencil to make sure you don’t end up with ghastly pencil-thin eyebrows later. You’d be surprised at the number of people who end up getting carried away when it comes to tweezing. Here is a quick guide on how to draw on your eyebrows:
    • Locating the starting points of your eyebrows: Place a tweezer, pencil or anything vertical next to your nose. Mark the area of the eyebrow that first touches your tweezer. This will be the starting point and anything beyond can be tweezed later.
    • Locating the end point of your eyebrows: Extend the tweezer outwards from your nose to the outer corner of your eye. The point where the tweezer meets your eyebrow first should be where your eyebrow ends. Mark this area too and pluck any hair beyond this point.
    • Finding the arch: Place the object on the tip of your nose and extend toward the pupil. The point on the eyebrow touched by it is where your eyebrows should peak. For a medium arch, use corresponding nostrils as reference points instead of the tip. Alternatively, follow the natural arch of your eyebrows which is where your brow bone protrudes the most.
    • Setting the thickness of eyebrows: While allowing them to be a quarter to a half inch in thickness, your eyebrows should more or less retain its natural shape. Draw a line below the eyebrows and remove hair that fall below it.
  3. Brush your eyebrows. Using a cosmetic brush called a spoolie, which is basically the mascara wand which you use on your lashes but with a longer handle, comb in an upward motion. It will give your brows some lift and make your eyebrows neater.
  4. Tweeze. Using a slant tip tweezer, locate stray hair near your eyebrows and pluck them. It is advised that you only work on the area below your brows, unless you are a professional of course. Tweezing above the eyebrows often leads to plucking too much into the arch, causing your eyebrows to become lowered rather than lifted.
  5. Check your progress. When tweezing, make sure to check the shape of your eyebrows from time to time. Although the pre-drawn guidelines on your eyebrows from Step 2 act as a safety net, it is still good to let yourself know you are not veering off the initial shape of eyebrows you had planned.
  6. Trim, but only as necessary. While trimming eyebrows takes away the softness of full strands, it is a necessary evil sometimes. Eyebrows that require trimming can look well-groomed and more defined after doing so. However, it should be done only if you absolutely need to. To find out if you need trimming, use the spoolie brush again and brush upwards in the direction of your brows. If there are strands that are visibly longer than the rest, trim them in moderation. Work in sections if you have thick, bushy eyebrows.
  7. You’re done! You have now learned how to shape your eyebrows and do it well.

It’s a good idea to focus on a single eyebrow first and then move on to the other after you’re done. To do it this way, work on individual eyebrows from Step 4 onwards. Keep in mind that for your eyebrows to look symmetrical, the peaks of both brows have to be at the same points along the length of them.
