Do’s and Don’ts of Eyebrow Threading

Our eyebrows are the most expressive facial feature that we have. By defining our eyes, they enhance and improve our natural look. Eyebrows are used in beauty as well as in non-verbal communication.

When it comes to enhancing your face, all you need is a pair of neatly groomed brows with a flattering shape to frame your face. There are various ways to define and shape your eyebrows. You can try waxing, tweezing or, one of the easiest and least painful alternative, threading.

What is eyebrow threading?

Eyebrow threading is the practice of shaping your brows with the help of a cotton thread. By creating a twisting action with the thread, the hair gets tangled and is pulled out from the follicle. Threading is a hygienic way of removing unwanted facial hair. For the first timers, it may hurt a little, but once you start threading it is almost painless.

Although eyebrow threading may seem easy, there are few guidelines that you have to follow in order to get that perfect shape.

Do’s of Eyebrow Threading

  • Go to a trained professional. Ask them how long they’ve been practicing threading, and what type of license they have.
  • Anticipate redness. When you are threading your eyebrows, what you need to know is that the little redness around your brow is normal. It is a natural reaction caused by pulling your hair out. It subsides after a few hours.
  • Communicate with your Esthetician. Explain to him/her the shape (thin, thick or sharp arch brow) of eyebrows you want.
  • Define your arches. The way they frame your face will do wonders to your look.
  • Touch up. Due to the rate at which eyebrow hair grows, it is recommended you re-thread your brows once every two weeks.

Don’ts of Eyebrow Threading

  • Don’t apply anything on your brows right after threading. Wait at least two hours before you apply cleanser, moisturizer, or make up in the threaded area.
  • Don’t leave too much space in between your brows. Doing so makes your nose look wider and your eyes smaller.
  • Don’t thin your eyebrows too much. That is, unless you want to look like you’re visiting from another planet. It’s an ultimate fashion faux pas.
  • Don’t use razors in between threading appointments. Razors cut your hair at the surface, making it harder for it to be removed the next time you thread. Moreover, you will also risk removing too much hair.

Eyebrows are so much more than just hair on our face. Not only can they change our facial expression, the shape of the eyebrows has the ability to accentuate our eyes and compliment the curve of our cheeks.
